10-1, Ichino-machi, Furukawa-cho, Hida City, Gifu Pref.
● Summary

Furukawa district in Hida east of Takayama is famous for the Furukawa festival and the beautiful scenery along the Seto river. The heritage center of artisans in Hida was built by the local carpenters who succeeded to the arts of artisans, making use of timbers which grew in Hida, wooded country. The fact that no nail was used in the process of construction is characteristic of the heritage center, where the arts of artisans in Hida, carpenter’s tools and the like are exhibited. The heritage center is crowded with many visitors. The preservation and restoration of the streetscape around this building are in progress. The traditional townhouses which make the most of the arts of artisans in Hida such as “latticework” and “shape of clouds” stand in a row, whose calm scene is enjoyable.
