The Uchiko-za is a wooden kabuki theater near the preservation district of the streetscape in Uchiko town, Kita-gun, Ehime Prefecture. This theater was established with the enthusiasm of those who had the limitless attachment to arts and entertainments when the time was economically rich by means of the production of vegetable tallow, raw silk and so on. The programs such as a kabuki and a puppet show on one occasion, a comic storytelling and a movie on the other occasion, won popularity and colored the Uchiko-za theater in the leisure season for farmers. The present building was restored in the 60’s of the Showa and it is designated as a cultural asset by Uchiko town.
