Byodo-in Temple

● Summary  

 

This temple was built by Yorimichi Fujiwara, the son of Michinaga Fujiwara, in 1052. In the following year, 1053, the Amitabha hall (Phoenix hall) of Byodo-in was completed. Many national treasures such as Amitabha Buddha Sitting Statue made by Jocho, a sculptor of Buddhist statuary in the Heian era, and Bodhisattva Statue Offering in the clouds (Unchu-kuyo-bosatsu-zo) are laid there. Buildings and Buddha Statues which were made about a thousand years ago have been handed down to the date and also they are on the list of the world heritage.
