Among the green mountains stand in a row the wooden houses characterized with a steep thatched roof (Gassho-zukuri) which produce the beautiful cultural landscape integrated with the fields. Most of them, including the house of Wada family which was built 300 years ago, and is a national designated important cultural property, are still used as a dwelling. Those dignified houses may impress you with prestige. And Yagai Hakubutsu-kan Gssho-zukuri Minka-en ( the outdoor museum of Gassho-zukuri house ) which preserves a wooden house with a steep thatched roof removed and reconstructed has its main building, the shrine, the main hall of the temple and the wind mill, where you can experience a straw work and making soba ( buckwheat noodles ). In addition you can enjoy the atmosphere and the local dishes at the spot which provides the house as an inn.
